A West Virginia University professor who is an expert in alternative fuels, engines and emissions has been appointed to the highest teaching and research position in the College of Engineering and Mineral Resources.

Nigel N. Clark, a professor in the Department of Mechanical and Aerospace Engineering, will assume the George B. Berry Chair in Engineering on July 1.

The late George Berry was a 1958 WVU chemical engineering graduate who became chairman and chief executive officer of Omicron Capital Corp. He and his wife, Carolyn, gave $1 million to create the permanent chair.

Dr. Clark was selected from among 10 highly qualified applicants for the post, said Allen Cogley, dean of the college. His appointment was approved by WVU President David Hardesty and Provost Gerald Lang based on the recommendations of a search committee and the dean."

President Hardesty, Provost Lang and I are extremely pleased that Nigel accepted the position and wish him the very best in representing the college and University," Cogley said.
